I still have my Raggedy Anne doll from the '60's. At the time I didn't like her as I thought I was "too old" for dolls, but now she is one of my treasured items from childhood. Interestingly, only my cloth doll made it to today between three sisters and breakage of toys.
My mom accidentally broke my doll that had a plaster head. She felt so bad that she stayed up all night making me a rag doll to replace the one she broke. Unfortunately when she presented me with the doll, it scared me and I began to scream. My poor mother!
I don't remember ever having a real rag doll, although I had several rag-body dolls with plastic head and limbs. My mother made me a Raggedy Ann costume one Halloween, complete with head and yarn hair. The eyes were milk bottle caps with the centers cut out and covered with thin black cloth. It narrowed my field of vision, but everyone else thought it was ingenious.

Wish I had mine! I had a topsy Turvey doll with Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma (the wolf). So much fun!

Oh, my, Joyce! Your mother sounds so sweet. So many things our mothers do for us.

I'd love to see a photo of that costume!
I would, too. Unfortunately, all of my childhood pictures were destroyed in a hurricane many years ago. :-(
